Teodor Cilan: “Aurel Vlaicu University of Arad Officially Opens the 2025–2026 Academic Year”
10/2/2025On Wednesday, October 1st, in the packed hall of the Cultural Palace in Arad, Aurel Vlaicu University of Arad officially opened the new academic year.
Students, representatives of local and county authorities, parents, and directors of institutions and schools gathered to mark the first day of the 2025–2026 academic year together.
Over 6,500 students of the state university in Arad are beginning this year full of hope, in a context where the admission results confirmed that the Arad institution continues to be a solid choice for an increasing number of young people from the western region.
“We begin this new year with confidence. The figures have shown that the university’s development strategy we implemented together with my colleagues has achieved its objectives. This new beginning is a moment of celebration for the entire academic community, and we were delighted to share it with our guests, representatives of local authorities, the Church, economic partners, parents, and students. We thank everyone for their participation and wish them a memorable academic year,” said Assoc. Prof. Dr. Teodor Florin Cilan, Rector of Aurel Vlaicu University of Arad.
It was a special and emotional ceremony, attended by distinguished guests: Her Excellency Angela Pesavento, Honorary Consul of the Italian Republic in Timișoara; His Excellency Roberto Sperandio, Honorary Consul of the Italian Republic in Arad; His Excellency Rufino Delgado Montenegro, Honorary Consul of the Republic of Peru in Timișoara; His Excellency Adrian Bădescu, Honorary Consul of the United Mexican States in Timișoara; and György Kozma, President of the National Self-Government of Romanians in Hungary.
The Arad academic community also received messages of support and participation from former rectors of UAV: His Excellency Radu Homescu, Prof. Dr. Gheorghe Păcurariu, Prof. Dr. Lizica Mihuț, Prof. Dr. Eugen Rovența, and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ramona Lile.
Those present, confirming their support and confidence in the role and impact of Aurel Vlaicu University of Arad within the local community, included: His Eminence Timotei Seviciu, Archbishop of Arad; His Grace Emilian Crișanul, Vicar Bishop; Mihai Pașca, Prefect of Arad County; Iustin Cionca, President of the Arad County Council; Călin Bibarț, Mayor of Arad; Prof. Dr. Coralia Cotoraci, Rector of “Vasile Goldiș” Western University of Arad; Marius Gondor, General School Inspector; and Paola Florescu, President of the UAV Students’ League.
The festive atmosphere was enriched by musical performances from the “Academica” Choir of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences and the “Atanasie Marienescu” Choir of the Faculty of Orthodox Theology, conducted by Tiberiu Ardelean, who brought artistic emotion and beauty to the opening of the new academic year. The event was hosted by Vlad Sergiu Sandu, a PhD student at UAV.
