“JOINED BY WINE – THE JOURNEY OF A CRAFT” at UAV

4/16/2026

Between April 20–24, 2026, “Aurel Vlaicu” University of Arad will host the event titled “JOINED BY WINE – JOURNEY OF A CRAFT”, an international educational project dedicated to exploring the relationship between wine, gastronomy, culture, and local heritage.

The event is organized by “Aurel Vlaicu” University of Arad (UAV), through the Faculty of Food Engineering, Tourism and Environmental Protection, as a Blended Intensive Programme within the Erasmus+ framework.

A total of 21 participants—students and academic staff—from the University of Maia (Portugal), European University Miguel de Cervantes (Spain), IUM Academy School (Italy), and the University of Szeged (Gal Ferenc University, Hungary) will be present in Arad, with the opportunity to discover the specific characteristics of one of the oldest wine-growing regions in Romania. The main objective of the programme is to help participants understand and capitalize on the interconnection between wine production, local gastronomy, cultural practices, and the heritage of the Miniș–Măderat region.

Over the five-day programme, participants will take part in technical visits designed to provide a practical perspective on winemaking processes, the use of local ingredients, and traditional food production methods. These hands-on experiences will facilitate a deeper understanding of the authenticity and value of local products.

The programme also includes specialized wine sensory analysis workshops, where participants will learn the stages of wine tasting and methods for evaluating sensory characteristics. These sessions will be delivered by experienced sommeliers and winemakers, offering a professional insight into the art of wine tasting.

“Through this initiative, we aim to highlight the potential of wine and local gastronomy as key factors in the development of tourism and local communities, while also promoting the valuable cultural heritage of the Miniș–Măderat wine region in a European context. ‘Aurel Vlaicu’ University of Arad assumes an active role in promoting local values and connecting them with the academic and international environment,” stated the Rector of “Aurel Vlaicu” University of Arad, Dr. Habil. Ramona Lile.
